Marriage is a part of the life process that is very meaningful to a person. Naturally, the wedding procession is always marked by something special, distinctive and unique, which is usually a tradition for every ethnic group. In this big event, there are harmonious procedures and provisions according to customs as unwritten guidelines that are obeyed and implemented from generation to generation, even though their existence has undergone changes adapted to current conditions.
Likewise with the Banjar traditional marriage which was carried out by Octa and Sidhi. They decided to carry out the Holy Qur'an recitation, showering, and Akad ceremonies in the nuances of the Banjar traditional ceremony. And this is what we want to tell you.
Octa and Sidhi's wedding ceremony began with a Qur'an recitation and then a showering ceremony at Octa's residence. This showering ceremony is better known by the Banjar people as Bappai or Badudus. Bappai itself comes from the word "Papai" which means splash. The term Bappai is used by the Banjar people, in general, to refer to this showering ritual, while members of the kingdom and also aristocrats used to know this procession as Badudus.
Bappai and Badudus are intended for the bride to avoid negative things that can interfere with the smooth running of the marriage later. Also, this bathing ritual is a symbol that the bride and groom have reached their maturity. If usually, the traditional Javanese showering procession uses 7 water sources for its water, this is also similar to the Bappai procession at this Banjar traditional wedding. The Bappai procession begins by sprinkling Papaian water by the family elders, which is then alternated by the other elders, but the number must be odd 3, 5, or 7. After finishing the bride and groom are combed and oiled. There is something unique about this procession, where the bride and groom will be surrounded with mirrors and candles 3 times by the elders who bathed her beforehand. After all the series is completed, it is continued with the glutinous rice thanksgiving or the term Banjar people is Balamak rice and golden banana.
Although for the Akad ceremony does not use a complete Banjar ceremony. They still use the Banjar attire complete with accessories called Baamur Galung Pancaran Matahari. The bride wears a Poko dress with short sleeves, embellished with beads shaped like a tassel, equipped with a five-sided kida. The groom wears a shirt with long sleeves combined with a coat that does not have buttons, embellished with embroidery with Halilipan motifs.
The whole Octa and Sidhi event is one of our favorite wedding ceremonies. Everything looks so charming, beautiful, and sparkling, Following their attire which means shining like the sun.
